hope

I have created this work for a competition at collage for what equality and diversity meant to me and the theme was 'hope'.
This piece has come 3rd in the competition!
The scene is a lonely person waiting for a bus in the open rain,
in the rain are symbols of gender, religion and circles to symbolize perfection.
The person is a combination of several minorities, the black face for the black people, white arms for the white people, red hair for ginger people, pink eyes for homosexual people, the green lipstick and blue fingernails for people with preferences that don't match the norm, the pentagram for religious monitories, the yellow clothing for people who don't dress to a gender style, the missing nose for people with disfigurements, the tail for the furry community and the bag has no meaning it's there to add a sense that this person has a life.
In this work I have used the rain as a metaphor for public expectations and the bus is the chance to get out and away from the rain, by using a situation that most of us are familiar with you get a feeling of hope for the person as you can recall the feelings of hope.
I will note that the stance of the person has a sense of pride, it is not hunched over as you would expect, instead it puts up with the rain and stands tall with a neutral expression and stares onward knowing the bus will arrive.
